Über dieses E-Book

"On War" - Vom Kriege (German pronunciation: is a book on war and military strategy by Prussian general Carl von Clausewitz (1780–1831), written mostly after the Napoleonic wars, between 1816 and 1830, and published posthumously by his wife Marie von Brühl in 1832. It has been translated into English several times as On War. On War is actually an unfinished work; Clausewitz had set about revising his accumulated manuscripts in 1827, but did not live to finish the task. His wife edited his collected works and published them between 1832 and 1835. His 10-volume collected works contain most of his larger historical and theoretical writings, though not his shorter articles and papers or his extensive correspondence with important political, military, intellectual and cultural leaders in the Prussian state. On War is formed by the first three volumes and represents his theoretical explorations. It is one of the most important treatises on political-military analysis and strategy ever written, and remains both controversial and an influence on strategic thinking. (Excerpt from Wikipedia)

Autoren-Profil

Carl von Clausewitz (1780-1831) was a Prussian general and military theorist whose profound insights into the nature of war have left an indelible mark on both military strategy and political theory. Born in Burg, Prussia, Clausewitz entered military service at the tender age of 12, a period marked by the tumultuous Napoleonic Wars. His experiences on the battlefield and his keen analytical mind led him to question and redefine the principles of warfare.Clausewitz's career was not without controversy. His critiques of contemporary military strategies often put him at odds with established military leaders. However, his ability to blend practical military experience with philosophical rigor set him apart. He was a pioneer in recognizing the complex interplay between war, politics, and society, famously asserting that "war is merely the continuation of policy by other means."His revolutionary ideas have influenced a wide array of contemporary thinkers, from military strategists to political scientists. Clausewitz's emphasis on the "fog of war" and the unpredictable nature of conflict resonates in modern discussions about asymmetric warfare and international relations.Beyond his military career, Clausewitz was also a devoted husband to Marie von Brühl, whose own intellectual prowess and editorial efforts were instrumental in preserving and promoting his work posthumously. Together, they formed a partnership that transcended the typical confines of 19th-century gender roles, adding a layer of personal intrigue to his legacy.Clausewitz's enduring relevance lies in his holistic approach to understanding conflict, making him a seminal figure whose ideas continue to shape modern strategic thought.
