Pohjoismaiset yhteistyöministerit hyväksyivät syyskuussa 2016 Nytt Norden 2.0 -raportin, joka kuvaa työn seuraavaa vaihetta. Raportin mukaan Pohjoismaiden ministerineuvoston budjettia on käytettävä nykyistä dynaamisemmin ja tavalla, joka on tarkoituksenmukainen Pohjoismaiden hallitusten, elinkeinoelämän ja kansalaisyhteiskunnan kannalta. Budjetilta vaaditaan lisää joustavuutta, jotta sen avulla voitaisiin vastata ajankohtaisiin yhteiskunnallisiin haasteisiin.
