Outcast and sidelined, our heroine is making the best of things until she gets framed for a crime she didn't commit. Now she is out to clear her name and anyone that gets in her way better watch out. This is a cozy mystery set in space. That might seem like a slightly odd combination, but it certainly works in this case. The setting is full of strange elements which might have you scratching your head, but the real stars of this story are the characters. We get a diverse crew with some truly bizarre personalities, but their interactions are wonderful and full of humorous moments. I loved how the crew pulled together to support our heroine as well as the healthy dose of humor throughout the story. Overall, it was a really fun read and I hope to see more of this crew in the future. Highly recommended. I received an ARC from the author for review purposes.

An absolutely great first book in a new series. The characters are believable, the plot is amazing and combining the two makes for a superb story. A healthy dose of devious behaviour, murder, and more twists than a drunken snake, all aimed at bumping off Captain Liz Laika, a talented and incredibly resilient woman who has spent a long time striving to overcome the lies spread about her and the case that effectively ended her career before it had really begun. There is a murder on her ship which sees her set up as the killer. Throw in an illegal AI, some giant spiders, metal eating fish, poison, and a handful of loyal crew that support her as she battles to clear herself. I can't wait for the next book, to find out what happens next!

Space Murder is the first book in the Captain Liz Laika Adventures by NL Haverstock. This is a great start to a new series. I found that I could really relate to Liz. It is a great cast of mis-fit characters that are there for each other. There’s also a lot of humor as well as action. I like to read to get away from stress and this was a very entertaining escape. I received this book as a gift and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

About the author

Nikki Haverstock is a writer who lives in the Rocky Mountains. She has studied comedy writing at Second City and has published snarky and fast-paced cozy, space and paranormal mysteries.

Before fleeing the city, she hosted a competitive archery reality show, traveled the world to study volcanoes, taught archery and computer science at a university and worked on a ranch herding cattle. Nikki has more college degrees than she has sense and hopefully one day she will put one to work.

Nikki likes to write comedy pieces that focus on the everyday humor of friends, family and the absurdity of life. She tried stand up but the cattle weren’t impressed.
