In pluralen Gesellschaften werden Religionen in vielfacher Weise zum Thema, etwa in ihrem Verhältnis zur Moderne, ihren Potentialen, auf Katastrophen zu reagieren, ihren Wahrheitsansprüchen oder ihrem Beitrag zu einem multireligiösen Miteinander. Solche und andere Phänomene primär in außereuropäischen, aber auch europäischen Kontexten zu deuten, ist eine der Aufgaben des Faches Missionswissenschaft, das heute auch unter dem Begriff Interkulturelle Theologie gefasst wird. Die Beiträge dieses Aufsatzbandes des bekannten Missionswissenschaftlers Henning Wrogemann wollen in interkultureller, interreligiöser und wissenschaftstheoretischer Perspektive einen Eindruck von der Fülle der Phänomene und Fragen vermitteln. Missionswissenschaft unterwegs bedeutet dabei zweierlei: Missionswissenschaft gibt es nur unterwegs zu den Phänomenen und zugleich unterwegs in der Weiterentwicklung ihres Selbstverständnisses als einer wissenschaftlichen Disziplin. [Missiology on the Way. Intercultural and Interreligious Perspectives] In plural societies, religions become an issue in many ways, for example in regard to their relations to modernity, their potentials to address disasters, their truth claims, or their contributions to a multi-religious community life. The interpretation of these and other phenomena, primarily in non-European but also European contexts, is one of the tasks of the discipline of missiology, today also known as intercultural theology. The contributions to this volume by the renowned missiologist Henning Wrogemann want to give an impression of the range of phenomena and questions from an intercultural, interreligious and epistemological perspective. Missiology on the way means two things: missiology is only possible as being on the way to the phenomena and as being on the way at the same time to a further development of its self-image as a scientific discipline.

Henning Wrogemann, Dr. theol., Jahrgang 1964, ist Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Missions- und Religionswissenschaft und Ökumenik an der Kirchlichen Hochschule Wuppertal/Bethel und Leiter des Instituts für Interkulturelle Theologie und Interreligiöse Studien (www.iitis.de). Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind Interkulturelle Hermeneutik, Mission und Dialog, Interreligiöse Beziehungens sowie Gegenwartsfragen im Islam.
