When strange markings appear on a mica-laced stone found by the Shenandoah River, a visionary journey is set in motion. Led by Heartstone—a being both skeletal and radiant—the narrator follows a spiraling path through elemental landscapes, birthing chambers, and the inner architecture of the soul.
As shapes and symbols come alive, they reveal the creature part of our being, the energies of the shadow, and the hidden self that longs to be known. This is not just a story, but a soul-mapping—where vision, myth, and memory interweave.
Beyond the Portal invites seekers, mystics, and lovers of symbolic realms to step into a world where imagination becomes revelation, and every mark on the Stone carries meaning inviting yet more exploration.
For many years, the author taught a course on the symbolism of Indigenous cultures. During several trips he made deep into the interior of Guatemala, he experienced the Indigenous lifestyle and was exposed to ancient Mayan rituals. In this work, he draws upon his experience as a photographer and his own vision quest experiences. By sharing this imaginative journey based on prior scholarship, the author hopes to share the gift of the Mystery Stone in another way.
