About the author

Marta Bertolaso is Full Professor of Philosophy of Science and Human Development at University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome. Her expertise in philosophy of science, biomedical sciences and scientific practice has allowed her to promote and collaborate in interdisciplinary research and educational projects on complex organised systems and human development.

Maria Laura Ilardo is a postdoctoral researcher at University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome on the "Emerging Concepts in Biomedicine: An Integrated Approach” project. With an MSc in Pharmacy and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (philosophy of science and pharmacology), her research covers drug safety, pharmacovigilance, causality, risk assessment-management, digital health.

Jaume Ribera is Emeritus Professor of Operations, Information and Technology at IESE Business School. His current research interests lie in the areas of operations improvement management, health systems management and project management
