American Marxism

Everyone who considers himself to be a patriot of this great United States of America & understands the evil that is Marxism. Should read this book as well as Mark's book "The Democrat Party Hates America" for a more complete understanding of the battle that is before us. If we are to keep our nation as the greatest nation the world has ever seen, we must be an informed and educated population that will vote accordingly and must be willing to "fight, fight, fight" to preserve the U.S.A. Typical American anti-Communist drivel. The author is either incredibly ignorant, or wilfully lying. Levin labels everything that isn't "god, guns, and family" style American Nationalism under the label "Communism" and uncritically blames that nonsensically applied label for every perceived and inflated problem in the U.S. This book is nothing more than McCarthy Era anti-Communism propaganda drivel. Don't waste your time with it. It doesn't provide anything even approximating a well-informed, academic, honest analysis of Marxism, contemporary or historic U.S. politics, or anything else.

'American Marxism' by Mark Levin comes across as a paranoid attack on all political ideologies left of traditional conservatism and labels them an attack on freedom. Considers efforts to improve air quality and water a ploy by intellectuals to subvert the American process and consider people bringing attention to climate change autocratic and repression of the human spirit. It is deadly paranoid of the 'Green New Deal,' which has yet to be put into place in the United States of America, and decries ecologists as propaganda makers. It offers no solution to the rising temperatures in my home state of California; it does not mention the soon-to-be underwater nation-state of the Maldives; its arguments are meandering and go off into tangents that don't loop back into the rhetoric. Capitalism, in my opinion, is the superior economic system to socialism. But the author of this book is so afraid of anything that is not right-wing that it is registered in his head as communism to the utmost. My stepfather bought me this book from Amazon, suspiciously after I have begun to research the Democratic Socialists of America, Jacobin Magazine, and Means TV. My interests in these organizations were tepid and likely to fade away in some days. Still, my political position as a social democrat has been made concrete upon reading this book. I am putting this book into the fireplace where it belongs. I will allow that it is well researched - it is impressively filled with anecdotes and filled with quotes from the 'Marxists,' but the arguments they follow up with to dispute are not compelling or engaging. 'Actually, the EJ movement is mostly led and driven by Marxist-oriented elites, academics, and activists, like most of these movements, while enticing many unsuspecting followers.' My most considerable criticism of this book is its disgusting anti-intellectualism. All of this work's polemic stems from the 'guys,' as in 'gut feeling.' Populism/fascism is near-universally associated with appeals to emotion and "common sense" instead of rationality and academic knowledge. Dumb is good. Don't think, feel. That is the message that I am receiving right with this book. I am reminded of Faisal Islam of Sky News interviewing British conservative politician Michael Gove in the run-up to the Brexit Referendum: Gove: I think the people in this country have had enough of experts, with organizations from acronyms, saying— Interviewer: They've had enough of experts? The people have had enough of experts? What do you mean by that? Gove: People from organizations with acronyms saying that they know what is best and getting it consistently wrong. Interviewer: The people of this country have had enough of experts? Gove: Because these people are the same ones who got consistently wrong what was happening. Interviewer: This is proper Trump politics this, isn't it? Gove: No, it's actually a faith in the— Interviewer: It's Oxbridge Trump. Gove: It's a faith, Faisal, in the British people to make the right decision. If any other people look at my review of this work and label me an enemy to America, a snowflake, an angry liberal, or something equally stupid, there is nothing I can do to stop you. But might does not make right, and ignorance is not bliss; this book resorts heavily to paranoia and the idea that capitalism makes people super-humans. Please do not read this book.
