About this ebook

Our families have feuded for years, but when I get myself hurt during a winter storm, Dawson King rides in like a cowboy Prince Charming and tucks me into his bed until I get better. It’s suddenly hard to remember why I don’t like him.

From Marie Johnston comes an enemies to lovers, small town romance.

Dawson King’s mom died because of my dad’s poor decisions, and ever since, I’ve been at the bottom of the King Ranch manure pile. Years later, our circumstances couldn’t be more different. I’m left running my decrepit ranch, and he’s right next door, in his big house, with his fat and happy cattle, and he sneaks treats to my horse. Everyone in town loves him while hating me is their favorite game.

Yet when I get hurt in the middle of a snow storm, he’s the only one there to help me.

When I’m recovering at his place, he takes care of me, and I start to forget the resentment between us and remember the friendship we had as kids. He treats me like he sees beyond my caustic personality and the high emotional barriers I’ve erected thanks to my rough upbringing.

What I don’t know is that he’s hiding a secret that gives him millions of reasons behind his motivation to get close to me. The clock is ticking for Dawson and his generous trust fund, and if I don’t succumb to his intoxicating charm, I’ll end up back in the hovel I came from with a broken heart. But if I fall hard, I’m not sure if he’ll have a reason to be there to catch me.

King's Country is a standalone novel in the King's Creek series (formerly published as the Oil Kings series).

A New-to-Me Writer has Me Completely Sucked In! Having never read anything by Marie Johnston, I was looking forward to reading the Oil Kings series based on the recommendations of a couple of friends. In Book Four, a novella entitled “King’s Country,” readers are treated to the story of the youngest King son as he works toward his HEA with a childhood friend who has survived more than her fair share of heartache. Dawson is a successful rancher - sexy, gorgeous, rich, and a bit hard-headed. He’s got nothing on the stubborn, fiery Bristol, who is as beautiful as she is prickly, carrying a boulder-sized chip on her shoulder that has weighed her down for the majority of her life. These two are an explosive combination, but they bring out the sweetness and understanding in each, treating us to some touching aww moments, steamy chemistry, and a well-developed plot despite its brevity. Johnston gives us wonderful characters (I even love to hate Dawson’s indomitable Gram) and a rich sense of the overall series without making new readers feel like they’ve missed something in the previous books. I really have enjoyed this read so much that I’ve purchased all the rest of the books so I can get caught up. Loved this five-star story!

Dawson’s grandparents screwed over Bristol’s grandparents, Dawson’s mom was killed by a man working with Bristol’s father also put money in a trust for the boys but had to marry before they were 29 and married a year or the money went to Bristol.. Her was an alcoholic plus to he town wanted nothing to do with them. Bristol was thrown from her horse but her dog went for help, Dawson took her to the hospital. She stayed at Dawson’s place and he do her ranch since couldn’t with crutches. The trust caused problems again but they got/it worked out! Love what she doing with money from the trust fund. Great book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this fourth "Oil Kings" story! This is an intriguing story about Dawson King. He is one of four sons of Gentry King, and has taken over the ranch. This is an interesting story because this one involves a family feud of sorts. This is Dawson and Bristol's story. They were once friends but things happened and the friendship ended. The plot is full of family drama, turmoil, passion and some great twists and turns.
