Lydia's Song

Ben turned and looked at Liz as she stood silently staring at the night sky, dreaming of a life filled with possibility. Filled with uncertainty, he longed to know if she felt the same or even loved him, and if she did, was it enough to spend the rest of their lives together? He thought to himself, Am I enough? What do I even know about being a good husband or father? Drifting in thoughts, pondered what the future held as the evening ended. The only lights remaining were the twinkling diamond-like stars in the night sky. Looking up reminded Ben of the wondrous universe and the God who created it. They were left alone to sort out their thoughts and feelings amongst themselves. Ben and Liz walked to the car, tired and ready to leave. Ben lifted Lydia, Liz’s daughter, gently out of her wheelchair, noticing her eyes staring at him with a slight smile. He slid her into the back seat and buckled her in. She had already fallen asleep as they drove down the lane.
