This epub documents the first series of photographic works exhibited by Lloyd Godman in 1983. The black and white images still present a graphic and stark picture of the environment we live in and our affect upon it. It acts as a start to his many environmental projects, like The Last River Song, Secrets of the Forgotten Tapu that soon followed

Using a time-consuming photo montage process, where failure is a large part of success, the images were carefully created from an assortment of negative film frames in a darkroom with enlargers and chemicals. These complex montaged photographs explore the bird motif and lay a foundation for the wide range of environmental projects that Godman latter pursued.

Included in the EPub is narrative rich with photographs that offers an insight into his life experience that inspired him to seek a creative path.

It traces his love of surfing and its culture from a thirteen-year-old grom in the cold waters on southern New Zealand to an interest he retains today in his 70s where he pay regular visits to URBN SURF wave machine, and how the creative nature of surfing influenced him.

It covers the time he spent photographing rock bands including the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Joe Cocker.

It delves into his time living at Taylor Camp (the ultimate hippy experience) in 1973 on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. Meeting Elizabeth Taylor and a range of other mind-expanding people.

It opens a portal to how and when he established the photographic section at the Dunedin School of Art and the work, he now does using Tillandsia plants as a sustainable means to green urban architecture.

About the author

Lloyd Godman became interested in photography through surfing and then his concern for the environment. He experimented widely with the medium and eventually set up the photography section at the Dunedin Art School which he ran for 20 years before moving to Melbourne. The department was credited with encouraging an experime4ntal approach to the medium. Landforms is based on his first solo exhibition and the journey to this event. Lloyd is now at the forefront of integrating plants into architecture.
