About this ebook

Return to New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Liliana Hart’s romantic suspense series with this thrilling game of cat and mouse between a member of the Gravediggers and the brilliant woman hot on his heels.

The world thinks they’re dead. The world is wrong.

Dante Malcolm is a man of refined tastes. He was once a part of Britain’s Elite Intelligence Force, but there was a reason he’d never been able to capture Simon Locke, the notorious thief who always seemed to be one step ahead. That’s because Dante and Simon were one and the same, until Dante’s double life eventually caught up with him and now he belongs to the Gravediggers.

Liv Rothschild is a Detective Inspector with Interpol and is the one responsible for catching MI-6’s most notorious agent in his final heist—except the heist killed him. But something has never felt right about his death, and it’s haunted her for months. It was too easy, and Dante Malcolm was too smart to go down that way.

Dante might belong to the Gravediggers in body, but his heart and soul will always belong to the next job. The rest of the team doesn’t know about his alter ego because he made sure the information went missing from his file. So when the job he’s always waited for seems like a possibility, he sneaks out of the country like a thief in the night, only to run into the only woman who’s ever been able to match him in wit—and passion—for the job. Except they’re standing on opposite sides of the law—and only one of them can walk away with the prize.

I picked up this book with great anticipation.  The first two in the series were top notch—The Darkest Corner, and Gone to Dust. While two of the gravediggers fell in love with Tess and Miller from Last Stop, Texas, this book comes at a different angle.  Our hero, Dante Malcolm, formerly worked for British Elite Intelligence Force, aka Simon Locke, a renowned thief.  He is so good as a thief, he never gets caught, while thoroughly enjoying the adrenalin kick and necessary preparation to make a perfect steal.  It challenges him. He also enjoys the art he collects for himself while out on the job as Simon Locke.  He has a code of honor, of sorts.  He  never thieves anything that hasn’t previously been thieved from the present owner. Hmm.  Does that make him a good thief? He met Liv Rothschild in his Elite Intelligence connection, while she worked with Interpol. Their mission?  To catch Simon Locke.  Dante was in the perfect position to have that never happen.  What Dante didn’t prep himself for, is the all-consuming desire to be with Liv.  They were mutually attracted and worked well together. He admired everything about her.  Through time, this pull only gets stronger.  Dante’s biggest flaw when it comes to life in general, is he is conceded, overly so, however, he does have some right to believe himself above the common thief. Apparently, one Eve Winter thought the same way, targeting him for her gravedigger team. She gives him a choice—to be caught because she has all the dirt on him, or die and join a team of guys who save the world.  He chooses the latter. Just a comment about Eve Winter.  She is ruthless, heartless, cold-blooded and despised by the gravediggers.  If you are new to the series, she is the gravedigger’s boss.  She’s a very scary individual with lots of power.  Her gravediggers are dead men; she gives them a new life.  They work for her for seven years—that’s the contract.  She in turn reports to agencies who work outside the normal channels, but are considered the good guys. Even though Eve Winter is who she is, I feel there is a story behind the woman, and I feel a bit sorry for her.  There must be some humanity in her if she let two of the five gravediggers marry.  I’m hoping the author will share her with us.  Who knows?  Love conquers all and just maybe she’ll change. There were some real precious, funny moments.  Elaine is the name of the computer the gravediggers work with.  If you followed Star Trek (I did), you know the type of computer I mean. It answers verbal questions.  But Elaine, not only has access to world-wide information, she has a personality she’s working on.  She reads, watches movies and picks up all manner of things. I’m in love with Elaine.  She’ll keep you entertained, that’s for sure. Lastly, I come to Liv Rothschild.  All her life she’s felt guilty about the abduction of her twin sister.  At six, Liv was the more adventurous, goading her sister to do things she shouldn’t. Elizabeth was abducted from Harrod’s Department store one Christmas holiday, never to be traced again.  Liv, all her life, kept looking for her sister.  Hence, her work in Interpol.  Liv has few friends. In her line of work, she can’t indulge, but lately, she’d like to let someone into her life, Dante Malcolm, that is, until he dies. Super, super book for fans of suspense, romance, and like their heroes and heroines strong who are not afraid to right wrongs and save the world. Great pacing, a page-turner and just simply a delightful series. I highly recommend it.

Loved this book! This novel tells us Dante's story and his past as an exceptional thief while also working in law enforcement assigned to find the thief that is him. His past disrupted his future when Eve (of Trident/Gravediggers) paid him a visit and convinced him to join the Gravediggers. Unfortunately, this resulted in hurting Liv, the woman he loved. Dante is an arrogant man who, while still in love with Liv, is not allowed to be with her. When he encounters her while on a job, they are both stunned, however, they are both searching for different things in the same location. What follows is a compelling story that touches on human trafficking while the Gravediggers strive to save the innocent from a potential world war. Fans of the genre will love this book. While Dante is my least favorite Gravedigger, I still loved this book. I would give this 4.5 stars, taking off half a star for Dante's arrogance. I would have liked him so much better if he had shown more personal growth. Put this one at the top of your TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.
