About this ebook

He loves the sweet life

Greg Hutchins is reluctantly adulting these days. He’s settled in his job, recently bought his first house, and has a network of friends he can call family. But there’s something missing in his life, and he can’t quite put his finger on it. When he’s assigned to a case that involves investigating a biochemical company, he meets a woman who’s sweeter than any candy. Maybe she’s just the thing to make him feel complete.

She’s ready for the future

Noelle LaVigne has faced plenty of tragedy in her life, but she’s on the right path now. Between her new job and settling into a new city, she’s got no time for dating or relationships. She’s worked hard to get where she is, and no man is going to push her off track. Except the minute Hutch crosses her path she can’t seem to think about anything but the handsome security expert. He’s there to find a corporate spy, but late-night work sessions make her think they’ve both found something much more meaningful.

A twist they never saw coming

When the case becomes dangerous, both of their futures are on the line. And when the bullets start flying, they will have to learn to trust in each other if they hope to survive.

Great ride. Love the clever heroine/protective protector who stuck his foot in his mouth trope hahaha! There's some great character development. All the characters in this series are well rounded and relatable I find. There are a few call backs to characters we've met in previous books, but I don’t think it interrupts the enjoyment of the book as a standalone, even if you've not read them. Some interesting phrasing choices, but I don't think they were typos or grammar issues. Just artistic choices. Good level of heat, but real focus on the mystery/action, which is my preference. Very satisfying all the way round and looking forward to the next in the series!

Exciting, sexy, compelling, unpredictable. Noelle’s passion is chemistry and got lucky to work at Genedyne but a recent accident and death of a fellow scientist has her questioning the company she works for. Her father, fearing for her safety, hires McKay-Taggert to protect her and investigate. Noelle isn’t excited to have a bodyguard. I love Noelle’s strength and courage. She had to relearn to walk after a car accident which left her using a cane which will cause some people to doubt her abilities. Hutch is pulled in to work on Noelle’s case and initially thinks it’s just a setup by his bosses’ wife. What he finds in Noelle is a strong and courageous woman that is also extremely smart. He is shocked by his reaction to her and his need to be with her and take care of her like a Dom would for his sub. However, he didn’t make the best first impression so how does he redeem himself? I loved the relationship that Hutch and Noelle built as they each tapped danced around the other trying to get to know each other. The mystery of what is happening at Noelle’s job added a great level of excitement with fabulous twists and turns along the way. I was pulled in and didn’t want to stop reading.

An awesome start to a new chapter in the Masters & Mercenaries world. Hutch has been one of my favorite characters and I was excited for him to have his own story. With a massive sweet tooth it fits that he finds his match in quirky, brilliant, scientist and baker Noelle LaVigne. These two get off on a very rocky start when Hutch is not very fond of the new assignment. Of course he sticks his foot in his mouth... big time. From there things really heat up. This would not be a M&M book without danger, murder, and a few crazies thrown in. A new threat has been introduced, and Hutch has his work set out to protect Noelle from it. But is it enough? I was completely hooked by this book and did not want it to end. It was one of those books that stuck with me in my dreams and thoughts even after the last page was turned.
