My favorite book of all time. Although it may sound like a cliche but, this was the only book that I finished and wished it was longer..... I didn't want it to end. The characters were so well thought out and defined, the scenery was breathtaking and the whole "wildness" of the West was perfectly captured. You can be following one of the characters and the next page he slips and falls and breaks his leg and ends up dying. The book is long but I never felt any scenes dragged. The writing was so rich and descriptive and I challenge anyone to read to the end and not be moved. Whenever a friend asks for a recommendation Lonesome Dove always comes to my mind first.

Probably the best Western book I've ever read. Sad and very human. The characters are more alive than most humans you'll meet nowadays.

I am a reader of historically semi-accurate fiction...if there is such a
thing as that! "L DOVE" is my absolute favorite book and L McMurtry, my
favorite Author...I've read almost everything he's written; very "word
worthy". I'm 71; been a long-time reading!

About the author
Larry McMurtry (1936–2021) was the author of twenty-nine novels, including the Pulitzer Prize–winning Lonesome Dove, three memoirs, two collections of essays, and more than thirty screenplays. He lived in Archer City, Texas.
