In quest’opera, scritta nel 1888, Nietzsche si scaglia apertamente contro il Cristianesimo, considerandolo causa di ignoranza dei popoli, di male sociale e morale per gli uomini. Egli crede che il Cristianesimo, così come accadde per il socialismo, utilizzi le proprie dottrine per arrivare al potere sul popolo. Non è la figura di Cristo che egli critica e che considera l’unico vero “Cristiano”, ma la completa falsificazione che il suo insegnamento, la sua vita e le sue opere hanno subìto attraverso i Vangeli, citando vari episodi a dimostrazione delle sue tesi. L’autore crea la figura dell’“Anticristo” non in antitesi a Cristo stesso, ma come ulteriore interpretazione della sua figura e come “legge contro il Cristianesimo”.
