The book explores the latest methods, techniques, and emerging trends in NIR spectroscopy that were presented and discussed at NIR 2023. It explores the underlying fundamental science, development of innovative instrumentation, methods as well as cutting-edge data analysis techniques, and their applications in key fields such as pharmaceuticals, food analysis, agriculture, biomedical diagnostics, and environmental monitoring. Each article within this volume represents current trends in the field of NIR spectroscopy, presenting original research and practical insights. Reflecting the topics of the premier NIR spectroscopy conference, this book forms an indispensable resource for researchers, practitioners, and students seeking to stay at the forefront of NIR spectroscopy. The hope is that the Proceedings of NIR 2023 will serve as a catalyst for further exploration, collaboration, and innovation in the dynamic realm of NIR spectroscopy.
Krzysztof B. Bec is a senior research fellow and project leader in Christian W. Huck's research team at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry and Radiochemistry, University of Innsbruck in Austria. He served as a member of the Organizing Committee for the 21st International Conference on Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR 2023 Innsbruck). Krzysztof obtained his Ph.D. in 2014 in physical and theoretical chemistry. With a research interest focused on developing new methods for NIR spectroscopy, Krzysztof's work spans from fundamental science to analytical applications. He has made significant contributions to the field, having authored over 70 articles, 1 book, and 13 chapters on applications and fundamental science underlying analytical spectroscopy. Krzysztof has been honored with multiple fellowships, including the prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship from JSPS (Japan) and a Lise Meitner project leadership from FWF funding agency in Austria.
Christian W. Huck is the Head of the Institute of Analytical Chemistry and Radiochemistry at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He served as the Chair of the 21st International Conference on Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR 2023 Innsbruck) and played a pivotal role in its organization. Christian earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Innsbruck in 1998 and completed his Habilitation in 2006. After receiving a professorship offer from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 2013, he later accepted a call to the University of Innsbruck in 2015. Christian is a prolific author with over 330 peer-reviewed manuscripts in the field of analytical chemistry, separation science, and spectroscopy. His contributions have been widely recognized, including receiving numerous awards and honors, such as the 2018 Tomas Hirschfeld Award and the 2021 SAS Fellow Award.
