Das Bewusstsein für Konfessionalität und die Einsicht in die Bedeutung konstruktiver Differenzpflege zwischen den christlichen Gemeinschaften ist im Schwinden begriffen. Die vielfältigen Aspekte von Konfessionalität spielen für die christliche Identitätsbildung in der Gegenwart allenfalls eine untergeordnete Rolle. Sind die konfessionellen Ausprägungen des Christentums, die damit verbundenen Traditionen, Bekenntnisse und Frömmigkeitskulturen im 21. Jahrhundert überhaupt noch von Bedeutung? Ist das Fach und der Begriff der Konfessionskunde noch anschlussfähig bzw. arbeitstauglich, um die Fragen und Herausforderungen der gegenwärtigen Lage zu bearbeiten? Das Konfessionskundliche Institut des Evangelischen Bundes e. V. ist diesen Fragen im Rahmen eines Expertengesprächs nachgegangen und hat dazu Theologen und Theologinnen aus unterschiedlichen Fachdisziplinen und konfessionellen Traditionen zusammengeführt. Mit Beiträgen von Wolfgang Thönissen, Hans-Martin Barth, Peter Gemeinhardt, Markus Iff, Christoph Barnbrock, Volker Küster, Friederike Nüssel, Gert Pickel und Wolfgang Zwickel. [Denominational Studies in the 21st Century] The conscience of denominational affiliation and the insight in the importance of the constructive upkeeping of differences between Christian communities is dwindling. The diverse aspects of denominational affiliation play, at most, a minor role in Christian identity formation, today. Are the denominational varieties of Christianity, their accompanying traditions, their confessions, and cultures of piety still of relevance in the 21st century at all? Is the term and the subject of denominational studies still compatible and suitable for responding to today's questions and challenges? The "Konfessionskundliches Institut des Ev. Bundes e. V." addressed these questions in an expert discussion of theologians of different subject areas and denominational traditions.
