"Ein Theologe sollte lieber fromm statt gelehrt sein." Der Vorwurf einer gewissen Bildungsfeindlichkeit hat den Pietismus von Beginn an begleitet. Umgekehrt haben namhafte Vertreter des Pietismus Kritik am herkömmlichen Theologiestudium geäußert und Reformvorschläge unterbreitet. So hat schon Philipp Jacob Spener die Theologie als "habitus practicus" verstanden, bei dem das gründliche Studium durch "allerhand übungen ... zu der praxi und eigenen erbauung" ergänzt werden soll. Dieser Band dokumentiert Anleitungen, Kritik und Reformvorschläge zum Theologiestudium in einem breiten Spektrum. Nach Johann Arndt, Philipp Jacob Spener, August Hermann Francke kommen auch wichtige Vertreter der "zweiten Generation" des Pietismus, des radikalen Pietismus und der Erweckungsbewegung zu Wort (J. J. Rambach, J. A. Bengel, S. Gmehlin, J. F. Haug, J. H. Jung-Stilling). Neben Texten zum Universitätsstudium enthält der Band auch Ideen zu einer anschließenden praktischen Ausbildung der Theologen, Vorformen der Predigerseminare des 19. Jahrhunderts. On the other side, renowned pietists have criticized the traditional study of theology and have made proposals for reform. It was Philipp Jacob Spener who had already understood theology as a "habitus practicus". The present volume documents instructions, critique, proposals for reform and other important sources concerning the study of theology that cover a broad temporal and contentual range. Besides Johann Arndt, Philipp Jacob Spener, August Hermann Francke also representatives of the "second generatio" of pietism are documented (J. J. Rambach, J. A. Bengel, S. Gmehlin, J. F. Haug, J. H. Jung-Stilling).
