This story is definitely not like other Kayci Morgan books that I've read in the past, and I enjoyed reading this story. I was able to finish this book really quick, and I loved the fast pace of the story. There are definitely some dark elements to this story, and some of the content may be a trigger warning, so use caution. The dynamic between the royal-turned-slave Lorne and Brendan was hilarious, and I loved the back and forth banter between them both. I love this fictional world that Kayci created and I loved getting lost in the story. Please note that I did receive an ARC of this book, and the opinions expressed in this review are my own. Brendan left home after his father and mother passed. His sister was taken along with the family farm by Rodan. He's spent the last 3 yrs accumulating wealth to but back the farm and his sister. At the market, he trades coins for jewels and gold and buys a slave boy, Lorne. Lorne trades himself for Gwynn, but Brendan comes to reclaim him and kills Rodan. Nice ending.

Seized by a Mercenary tells a short romantic story of Brendan and Lorne. Despite being rather short I found it enjoyable, if predictable. I think I would have preferred this story in a larger world setting, perhaps including more detail of characters past experiences and how they came to be where they were for this particular episode. I also had a problem with the book cover. The cover drew me to the story but no matter how I tried I found that I could not relate the cover image to a character in the book. Maybe that was me but I kept waiting for the cover character to appear. Having said that, the characters of Brendan and Lorne were just adorable and I enjoyed reading their story.
