About this ebook

Laurel wakes aboard an alien ship, her head bandaged, her memories in pieces, and every sense on high alert. The doctor caring for her says she was rescued from a violent slaver ring. He’s kind. Patient. Gentle.

But somewhere on the ship… she hears screaming.

And when she follows the sound, she finds Dru.

Shackled. Tortured. Seething with rage.

His body is battered. His blood is wet on the floor. But the moment their eyes meet, something in her snaps taut, and something inside him roars to life.

Dru has been trained to endure anything: pain, isolation, war. But nothing could prepare him for the soul-deep need that crashes through him the instant he sees Laurel.

More than hunger. More than instinct.

Laurel is human, haunted by fractured memories, and still healing. She doesn’t trust the bond tethering her to a stranger. But she keeps coming back, drawn to the fire in his voice and the wicked promise in his eyes.

And Dru?

He watches her like a predator chained.

Because every second she’s near pushes him closer to losing restraint, to claiming what’s his.
And if she asks, even once, he'll ruin anyone who stands between them.

Even if it means burning his way through the galaxy to reach her.

Laurel Ormand woke up screaming but she had to be silent so they didn’t know she was awake. She had a headache and found half of her hair had been shaved off – why? A purple alien Oscavian research doctor, Brakley Varrow, walked in and said she had been unconscious for several days. She had a control chip implant in her head that slavers used, which they removed. He told her it messes with memories, and there had been minor damage at the site of the chip. She was still healing. He said they would return her to her people when she was fully healed. Druath NaKam, a soldier of the Detyen Legion, was in intense pain, chained to the wall. He was being tortured and experimented on by an Oscavian who hated the Detyens. When Laurel heard screams of pain, she had to investigate. Someone might need help. But they had just finished their torture session and left the room. Dru heard a soft voice ask what they had done to him! He couldn’t see and couldn’t speak, but the voice and scent put him at ease. She left and wasn’t able to get back to him. Dru finally managed to escape when the scientists were careless in wrapping his claws after another experiment. He found Laurel’s room and, as soon as Dru saw her, he knew immediately she was his Denya (mate). After the surprise of seeing him, she immediately knew they would have to escape and she had a plan! But they had done more testing on her, and she found her headache was worse, she was dizzy and her brain foggier. Dru didn’t notice, and when she felt okay, she took him to the escape ships. Apparently, however, they needed some sort of key which she thought she knew where it would be from her earlier tour with Varrow. But when she stood, she stumbled and her words slurred and Dru realized she was not at all well. After she was able to explain, he refused to leave until she was healed, even though it meant he would return to probably even worse torture. Was there any hope for them? Aside from reading about torture, the book was really good. It was fast-paced, exciting, and full of suspense. The main characters were both remarkable considering all that they endured. And finding out they were mates gave Dru a definite reason to fight and survive. When they discover the danger to Earth, they have even more reason to escape! I listened to the audiobook version of the book. There are two narrators who did a good job in putting life into the already-exciting story. No doubt about it, this is an awesome book I highly recommend!

What an adventurous story. Druath is great, he's patient, very protective and determined. Laurel is rightly puzzled yet in spite of her haziness she is drawn to him. Their powerful enemy is just as determined which ups the intensity as they try to learn to trust one another and survive with the threat of war being imminent. I also listened to the audiobook and the male narrator was great, the female narrator did well she just sounded really young for Laurel.

I feel like we getting closer to the end. The main plot of the series dragged me in and has kept my attention tightly focused. My brain has seemed to be on the edge of its seat during each book. But then you add in the already complicated loves of Druath and Laurel, and a whole other level of on the edge of your seat begins. I would highly recommend this book and this series. Happy reafing!
