“Kachvel” is the successor of Anand Yadav's autobiographies; "Zombi'’, "Nangarani'’, and "Gharbhinti'’. In the rural areas it is a custom to make a design on the floor using the broken glass bangles. This is always shaped in the form of a veil indicating the coming generation. Every housewife considers herself to be the veil, her offspring being the various buds and flowers blooming. She draws as many branches as her children. My mother possessed this divine folk art, I saw her divinity for the first time. In the coming years, all my siblings crawled on the veil. In its presence, I completed my studies. The "Kachvel' was always there for many years, resembling a carpet. There onwards, for the past 60 years, I have tried to collect as many broken glass pieces as possible. I have preserved all the glass pieces I thought worthy. They were given to me by many experienced and dexterous artists. They have moulded me as a person. At the end, I have felt that this 'Kachvel' is a symbol of Marathi community and culture; with me as a mere porter.

`झोंबी', `नांगरणी' आणि `घरभिंती' या आत्मचरित्राच्या तीन खंडांनंतरचा हा चौथा खंड काचवेल.नव्या घरातील सोप्याच्या भुईवर ग्रामीण भागात ‘काचवेल’ काढण्याची लोकप्रथा आहे. कांकणांच्या काचतुकड्यांनी ही वेल रेखली जाते. ही वेल वंशवेलीचंही प्रतीक असते. त्या घराची गृहिणी नकळत स्वत:ला वंशवेल मानते. तिची मुलं ही त्या वेलीवरच्या कळ्या, पुâलं असतात. जेवढी मुलं, तेवढे तागोरे ती काढते...आईची ही दैवी लोककला मी पहिल्यांदा बघत होतो.यथाकाळ माझी सगळी भावंडं त्या वेलीवर रांगली. मी सोप्यात बसून अभ्यास केला; त्या अभ्यासालाही काचवेलीचा कशिदा मिळाला. पंधरा-सोळा वर्षं ही वेल तिथं पायघडीसारखी पहुडली.तेव्हापासून मी साठ वर्षांच्या आयुष्यात खूप काचा तुकड्या-तुकड्यांनी गोळा केल्या. मला आकर्षक वाटणारे रंगीत तुकडे जपून ठेवले. जागोजागी भेटलेल्या कसबी कासारांनी मला ते प्रेमाने देऊ केले. त्या तुकड्यांनीच माझ्या व्यक्तिमत्त्वाची वेल सिद्ध झाली.अंतिमत: ही ‘काचवेल’ आणि तिची भूमी ही मराठी समाजाचं आणि संस्कृतीचं प्रतीकही आहे, असं जाणवलं. मी फक्त भारवाही.
