The year is 1909 and Joseph has just immigrated to the United States from Russia. Just Call Me Joe presents a full picture of life in New York City for the working poor. Anna, Joe's older sister, struggles to cope with the terrible factory conditions of the time. Aunt Sophie must take in boarders to make ends meet. And Joseph must both accept change and remain true to himself in a new city with new challenges.

Frieda Wishinsky is the award-winning author of over forty books for young people. She loves humor, history and exploring new ways to tell a story. Frieda was raised and educated in New York City, where she earned a BA in International Relations and a Master of Science in Special Education. Frieda's books have been nominated for international awards, earned critical praise, and have been featured in magazines and newspapers around the world, including The London Times, The Observer and The New York Times. Frieda lives in Toronto, Ontario.
