This is probably the most clear explanation of why United States is what it is today. Franklin did encourage useful knowledge based on experimentation and curiosity. With his Queaker and Leather apron groups did offer the common man a facilities to learn and grown and finally to be able to offer results in exchange. At the corner of Independence the colonies were already war machines against the King in England. If you read this book you will understand why some other countries have been stuck

Jonathan Lyons is the author of The House of Wisdom: How the Arabs Transformed Western Civilization (Bloomsbury Press, 2009). He served as editor and foreign correspondent for Reuters for more than twenty years. He holds a doctorate in sociology, and has taught at George Mason University, Georgetown University, and Monash University in Australia. He lives in Portland, Oregon.
