John Buchan was a Scottish author and politician who served as the 15th Governor General of Canada from 1935 until his death in 1940. He wrote many novels, mostly in the genre of adventure fiction, and also authored a number of non-fiction historical works. His most famous novel was The Thirty-Nine Steps, the first to introduce the character of Richard Hannay, which was later adapted by Alfred Hitchcock into a critically acclaimed 1935 film.
