About this ebook

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Joanne Fluke’s bestselling culinary capers with a brand new recipe!

No one cooks up a delectable, suspense-filled mystery quite like Hannah Swensen, Joanne Fluke’s dessert-baking, red-haired heroine whose gingersnaps are as tart as her comebacks, and whose penchant for solving crimes—one delicious clue at a time—has made her a bestselling favorite. And it all began on these pages, with a bakery, a murder, and some suddenly scandalous chocolate-chip crunchies. Featuring a bonus short story and brand new, mouthwatering recipes, this new edition of the very first Hannah Swensen mystery is sure to have readers coming back for seconds . . .

Hannah already has her hands full trying to dodge her mother’s attempts to marry her off while running The Cookie Jar, Lake Eden’s most popular bakery. But once Ron LaSalle, the beloved delivery man from the Cozy Cow Dairy, is found murdered behind her bakery with Hannah’s famous Chocolate Chip Crunchies scattered around him, her life just can’t get any worse. Determined not to let her cookies get a bad reputation, she sets out to track down a killer. But if she doesn’t watch her back, Hannah’s sweet life may get burned to a crisp.

Thank goodness this cookie baker is a better sleuth than her detective brother-in-law! Lake Eden residents can sleep better at night! Enjoyed the extra story about Candy and the generous sprinkling of recipes. Found it unique that each calls for the butter to be melted and combined with sugars then cooled instead of creamed together, and salt and baking soda added to wet ingredients not mixed in the flour, then each recipe calls for refrigeration 2-24 hours. I love the quicker methods of mixing up a batch of dough!

My mom has owned this series for a long time. I'm not even sure where she got them. I just know that when I went to visit her, I saw them on her bookshelves. Fast forward some years and somebody important to me got this book as a Christmas gift by somebody important to them. The person has read this series and loved it. I finally caved and got the series in audiobook. I'm so glad that I did. I love a good cozy mystery. (More on blog: Star's Books & Tea)

I read all of her books but the last 4 which I would have had it not been for the library shutting down because of the pandemic where I live. But I just absolutely love her books and recipes.
