About this ebook

Winner of the 2021 Passionate Plume Award for BDSM Romance

He taught her to trust, she taught him to love.

Lucy Barton learned the hard way: rules exist for a reason. Seventeen years have passed since the devastating day she changed from a fun-loving twenty-three-year-old to the strictly controlled forty-year-old who uses speed dating as a way to scratch her itches without the inconvenience of commitment—not that anyone’s lining up to commit to a woman with only half a face.

When a chance meeting with her new boss, the enigmatic Toby Bennett, promises a wealth of carnal pleasure, she’s faced with two choices: use him to scratch her itch for a night, then cut and run as usual, or stick around for a while and learn the true meaning of control.

Tobias Bennett has always known he was different. His towering height and quiet nature aside, it’s his need for control in and out of the bedroom that sets him apart from most men. While acting as wingman for his twin brother, he comes face-to-face with his new office manager, Lucy Barton.

The wealth of scars trailing down the right side of her face and body intrigues him, but it’s her guarded disposition that has him itching to teach her a lesson she’ll never forget. One night in Lucy’s arms has Toby craving so much more, but she’s a no-strings-attached kind of woman. That’s her golden rule. But Toby knows better than anyone, some rules are meant to be broken.

This is not a quick read. With almost 300 pages, not moves slowly so you need to stay engaged, but it is interesting and full of various emotions. At the start, there are three main characters..the female is Lucy, facial scarring from her days as an ex firefighter, her employer Toby and his twin brother Charlie. The introduction starts with a night of passion as a threesome after a speed dating event involves a confrontation with a Jack the lad, idiot, ignorant, type. Lucy can hold her own and eventually things settle down; Charlie bows out and the story continues as a romance for a couple. There is an element of BDSM to satisfy needs, but there is passion and emotion set within a deeper root of hurt, trust issues, feelings of not being enough, and much more. As a couple, they are well suited to thrive in their own way and time, with underlying respect and understanding. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Jennie Kew writes a fantastic story with His Own Heaven. Toby is 40 and hires Lucy to be his office manager at his landscape company. Attracted to her from the start, he and his twin Charlie see her at a speed dating event the Friday before she starts work. Lucy has significant scarring from being a fire fighter. Charlie and Toby take her home for the night, but it is Toby who claims Lucy. Toby, as a dominant, meets Lucy's needs as a submissive. They both have issues from their pasts.
