IMO, two reasons that may have downgraded the quality of it: Firstly, the beginning was fine, but as the story continued, the plot became less intriguing due to long dialouges. Unless the narrator makes himself more relatable, readers may not fully understand the desperate situation he is in, which decreases overall interest while reading. Secondly, although there are immensely beautiful, open-ended novels adorned with breathtaking endings, I venture to say that this story needed a clearer ending. The reason for having a clearer ending is that there had been a lot of tension built up during the dialouge between the solider and "the old one". While I read the conversations, I thought: "is the old one giving magical power to the solider?", "Will there be an epic fighting scene at near end?" These questions seemed to be crucial but unanswered as I read. However, I liked most part of the story. I read the entire book and thought: 'it deserves more than 2.8 stars.' This is my opinion.
