Jack as a writer is a bit verbose, using way harder words to understand than is necessary. He will lose the average reader if they have to keep defining words. I had to teach my boyfriend how to use the built-in dictionary in google play books so he could try to understand what Jack was saying. You shouldn't need a college dictionary to read a travel book/memoir.
