About the author

His full name is Abu Muhammad Izzudeen Abdulaziz ibn Muhammad ibn Abdussalam ibn Abu Qasim ibn Al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Al-Muhadab Al-Sulami Al-Damishqi Al-Shafi. He was born in Damascus (577h) and moved to Egypt in 639h where he passed away in 660h. He is also popularly known Sultan al-Ulema/ the sultan of the scholars. Al-Izz ibn Abdussalam as one of the great scholars of Islam and one of the (great) intellectual of the seventh Islamic century, he was one of the sultans of the scholars who vanquished oppression and tyranny, he commanded the good and forbade evil and so on. He made souls aware of the importance in the path of victory and glorification of the religion of Allah (the Exalted). He studied with all the leaders of his time including Ibn Aaskir. He studied the Shafi school of Sunni Islamic law, Hadith, Arabic and many other sciences. He reached the level of Mujtahid where he could directly derive principles from the sources of Islamic law. He is famously known as Al-Izz according to researchers, as he is famous for being a jurist and Mujtahid. Many of the works of Imam Al-Izz ibn Abdussalam have not seen the light of day. He was also concerned to remove innovation and new matters. He did fear the reproach of the innovators or literalists. He would take part in debates and discussions with them. Many students studied at his hands including Ibn Daqaiq Al-?Id and Shihabuddeen Abu Shammah. In 635 he was given the post chief judge and he left the position that same year. Al-Izz passed away in Cairo (Egypt) in the year 660 on the tenth of Jamada Al-Ulaa.
