Haiti is a Caribbean country located on the western portion of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the neighboring Dominican Republic. The country has been plagued by political instability, corruption, and natural disasters, including the 2010 earthquake that left over 200,000 people dead and caused significant damage throughout the country. Despite these challenges, Haiti has a resilient and vibrant population that has produced notable figures in literature, art, and politics, and continues to work towards overcoming the difficulties it faces.
