"During the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947, Kashmir Valley--an intricate mix of regional, ethnic, linguistic, religious, and caste communities--became a hotly disputed territory. With portions of the region divided among India, Pakistan, and the People's Republic of China, major territorial disputes, particularly between India and Pakistan, have persisted over historical and cultural claims to the land. Patrick Colm Hogan is a professor of English at the University of Connecticut, where he is also on the faculty of the Program in Cognitive Science and the Program in India Studies. He is the author of numerous books, including Understanding Nationalism: On Narrative, Cognitive Science, and Identity and Affective Narratology: The Emotional Structure of Stories (Nebraska, 2011).
