This open access book delves into discussions central to hydraulic structures and research in the realm of hydrodynamics. Hydraulic structures stand as pivotal components within civil engineering and construction, playing a safeguarding role for structures vital to human development. Examples encompass the Hoover Dam in the USA, the Three Gorges Dam in China and the Almendra Dam in Salamanca, Spain. Monitoring the safety and ensuring the structural stability of hydraulic structures has long remained a focal point within hydraulic engineering. Factors affecting the safety of hydraulic structures, water pressure, and loading demand meticulous attention. The stability of structures and materials experiences degradation due to hydraulic impact and long-term corrosion, compromising the safety of hydraulic structures. The inability to adequately support and release water during flood season or flooding can result in irreversible damage. The book aims to furnish global civil engineers with cutting-edge research and engineering examples pertaining to the safety and hydrodynamics of hydraulic structures, with a particular emphasis on dam safety and inspection. It endeavors to inspire novel insights and research avenues for the readers and provide some experiences and results for disciplinary research in this field. The topics of this book include but are not limited to the following:

Prof. Weiqiang Wang

Weiqiang Wang is Professor of Hohai University. He graduated from Wollongong University in Australia in 2016 with a doctorate degree in civil engineering. He then worked at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia and Loughborough University in the UK for postdoctoral research. In 2021, he joined the College of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering of Hohai University and was selected as Distinguished Professor Plan of Jiangsu Province. He is mainly engaged in the application research of high-performance engineering materials and intelligent construction technology in newly built concrete structures. He currently serves as Editorial Board Member of SCI journals in the field of vibration engineering and Guest Editorial Board Member of SCI journals in the field of material structure.

Prof. Wang Chengzhi

Professor Wang Chengzhi is Associate Dean of Teaching at the School of River and Sea, Chongqing Jiaotong University. He has received the Teaching Achievement Award for Young Teachers in Chinese Transportation Education and the Second Prize of Teaching Achievement Award in Chongqing. He has published five academic monographs and industry planning textbooks in both Chinese and English. His research focuses on intelligent construction and smart monitoring of inland ports, as well as digital twin management of ports. He has published over 50 articles in high-level journals such as “Applied Mathematics and Computation,” “Automation in Construction,” and “Construction and Building Materials.” He has also obtained more than 20 related patents and has been involved in more than 50 national, provincial, and ministerial research projects.

Lu Yang

Lu Yang, Ph.D., is Associate Researcher and Master's Supervisor.

After graduation, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Civil Engineering Postdoctoral Mobile Station of Hohai University. After leaving the station, he was specially evaluated to work at the Institute of Smart Water Resources and Intelligent Disaster Reduction at the School of Water Resources and Hydropower. In recent years, he has mainly engaged in research on hydraulic structures and disaster prevention and reduction.
