Die Sozialarbeit befindet sich als Profession und Disziplin in einer Umbruchphase. Die gesellschaftlichen Wandlungsprozesse wie Individualisierung, Pluralisierung und Differenzierung lassen traditionelle sozialarbeiterische Orientierungen obsolet werden. Die Fragen, was Sozialarbeit ist und welche gesellschaftlichen Funktionen sie wahrzunehmen hat, sind keineswegs mehr eindeutig beantwortbar. Hierauf muss sich auch eine Sozialarbeitswissenschaft einstellen. Darum sind Konzepte gefragt, die die ausgeblendeten Widersprüche, Ambivalenzen und Paradoxien des Sozialarbeiterischen herausarbeiten und tolerieren. In diesem Buch wird wissenschafts-, sozial- und praxistheoretisch aufgezeigt, dass Sozialarbeit auf allen Ebenen ihrer gesellschaftlichen Ausdifferenzierung ambivalent und damit immanent postmodern ist.
