About this ebook

From USA Today Bestselling Author Heather Boyd… She’s the willful, spirited ward to his stuffy, boring guardian…until his duty is fulfilled. Prepare for sparks, laughs, and a scandalous amount of hunger in this steamy regency romance.

On the eve of her twentieth birthday, Daisy Ellis couldn’t wait for the clock to strike midnight. At that precise moment, her grumpy guardian ceased to maintain control over her life—and good riddance. The stuffy, boring man thwarted all attempts at fun, and chased off a good many prospects for a match! But it’s only after Throsby’s gone that Daisy discovers all he’d done for her…all he’d sacrificed…over four long years. And those “prospects”? More like dishonorable letches more interested in Daisy’s ruin than the modest funds they’d acquire through marriage.

His guardianship finally at an end, Viscount Max Throsby thought he’d be thrilled to return to his scandalous ways. To his utter surprise, four years of respectability has taught him the value of being needed. No longer content to drink and gamble his days away, Max finds himself missing his high-spirited, challenging ward. And no longer bound by duty, he proves in a moment of passion that he’s not nearly as “boring” as Daisy always claimed. Soon, they’re tempting each other in ways that could bring about the woman’s ruin—the very thing Max sought to protect her from for years.

Max is determined to do right by Daisy at her pace. However, time may not be a luxury. A family tragedy has elevated his station, suddenly making Max the most eligible bachelor on the marriage mart. But he needn’t fear. When Miss Ellis is unleashed, she’s a woman who gets what she wants.

This is a bit different as the reader learns tidbits about Max and Daisy and their relationship through their thoughts (not excessive) and conversations with 3rd parties. There is not much 'on page' interaction between Max and Daisy, more avoidance. That is, not until Daisy's birthday and the end of the guardianship, a turning point in this story. I liked the characters and Daisy's sense of humor. Miss Dawes poses a riddle, probably to be revealed in a later book. This was an easy, entertaining read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Daisy couldn't wait for the day overbearing stuffy Max was no longer her guardian and he couldn't wait to no longer have to deal with the minx and her joy in tormenting him until it ends and they both long for something the other didn't know they were missing. Her staff is a riot the way they play matchmaker to get them together. They've both known loss but there are so many things they didn't know about each other. Daisy is rather bold in her pursuit once she knows what she wants.

He's kept her safe under his guardianship and she's chafed at it all the way. They went their separate ways when the guardianship ended and started missing each other. Then she started getting to know him and their relationship changed again.
