An absolute masterpiece. Others have written of the ideas, so I will draw attention to the gentle humanity and essentially civilised nature of the characters. The Mesklinites and humans alike reflect Hal's beautiful soul. This book should inspire us all.

Hal Clement (1922-2003) is a Science Fiction Writers of America Grand Master, and the author of the novels Half Life, Heavy Planet and the classic Mission of Gravity.
