Thoroughly a classic British police procedural, in tune with British culture and the 1950s, in which the book is set. inspector Yarrow has the same haunting emotional depth as Charles Todd's Inspector Ian Rutledge series. If you liked the TV shows Endeavor or Inspector Morris, you'll find Inspector Yarrow and the good and ill of his station to be your cup of tea.

So well written that I could feel the emotions of the characters living in post-war England. Ekins leaves you appalled at the casual acceptance of poverty and domestic abuse. Angered by the behaviour of police and criminals alike. But still finding a hero in the calm, honesty and integrity of Yarrow. I can't wait to start the next book.

An interesting read. Good characters.
