About this ebook

What if the clearest path to joy, presence, and radical love wasn’t found in a temple — but in a muddy paw print?

In the spirit of The Tao of Pooh and The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, The Tao of Dogs offers bite-sized, tail-thumping truths from two unlikely sages: Groot, a cuddly black Lab who treats joy like a mission, and Rocket, a zoomie-prone Jack Russell with no off-switch and zero regrets.

This is not a novelty gift book. It’s not about training your dog, either. It’s about un-training yourself — from anxiety, from perfectionism, from the endless chase for more — by learning from those who’ve mastered the art of now.

Each short, poetic chapter distills one dog’s-eye lesson in how to live:

– Zoom when they expect you to nap

– Circle before you settle

– Trust the leash sometimes

– Let joy be loud

– Don’t fake sleep when you’re sad

– Say yes with your whole body

Wise, irreverent, and unfiltered, this book belongs next to your meditation guides, not your chew toys.

Whether you’re a dog lover, a spiritual seeker, or someone trying to find your way back to joy — The Tao of Dogs is a nuzzle, a nudge, and a reminder:

You don’t need to be calmer, wiser, or better.

You just need to show up,

tail wagging.

About the author

G. Scott Graham is an existential handyman — fixing what’s broken, realigning what’s off-kilter, and helping people rebuild their lives with meaning, purpose, and the occasional strip of duct tape. He’s also an author, career coach, business coach, and psychedelic support coach based in Boston, Massachusetts.

Scott is driven to help clients follow their “true azimuth” — a direction distinct from “true north.” It’s not about chasing some universal ideal. It’s about identifying what genuinely matters to you. It’s about recognizing the forces that pull your life off course and learning how to adjust so you still arrive where your heart wants to go. When you're 90 and looking back, your life should feel like it was truly yours — filled with pride, purpose, and meaning. No regrets.

When he’s not coaching people to be their very best, Scott runs a nonprofit farm animal rescue and lives what he teaches. He does Tough Mudders, teaches Sun 73 Tai Chi, paddleboards with his dogs Groot and Rocket, and camps in State Parks across New England whenever he can. His daily spiritual practice is grounded in anāpānasati, vipassanā, and mettā-bhāvanā meditation. A firm believer in service as the heart of a life well-lived, Scott also volunteers as an EMT instructor, firefighter, and Master Gardener in his community.

In his "free time," he writes books.

Groot doesn’t just love—she LOVES. She loves hugging, cuddling, and giving more affection than anyone could possibly absorb. If love were a competitive sport, she’d have more gold medals than an Olympian. She believes that every situation—whether it’s a morning wake-up, a paddleboarding session, or a post-mud-run cooldown—can only be improved by more love.

Of course, her other great passion is Frisbee. She lives for the perfect throw, the wind at her back, and the thrill of soaring through the air to make an epic catch. And when she’s not engaged in her aerial acrobatics, she’s tackling mud runs like a pro—conquering two Tough Mudders, two Rugged Maniacs, and a Savage Race in the last few years with an unstoppable mix of enthusiasm and did we really have to crawl through that mud pit?

On the water, Groot’s a serene paddleboarding queen, preferring to float majestically while contemplating the meaning of life and waiting for snacks. She’s the heart of every adventure, always ready with a cuddle, a wag, and just a little bit of drool to seal the deal.

Rocket does not care about Frisbees. At all. Completely indifferent. A total waste of her time...

…Until Groot wants one. Then, suddenly, that Frisbee is the only thing that matters, and she must have it immediately. This small, speedy mastermind has made an entire sport out of intercepting Frisbees at the last possible second, just to see the look on Groot’s face.

But Rocket isn’t just a Frisbee thief—she’s also an obstacle course legend. With 2 Tough Mudders, 2 Rugged Maniacs, and a Savage Race under her collar, she’s powered through mud pits, leaped over walls, and left competitors twice her size in the dust. She approaches every challenge with the energy of a squirrel on espresso and the determination of a creature that refuses to acknowledge her own small stature.

Beyond her athletic pursuits, Rocket is a strategic snack thief and an elite-level squirrel surveillance expert. She’s got the confidence of a creature three times her size and the attitude to match. But at the end of the day, she always finds her way back to Groot’s side—usually just in time to steal the best cuddle spot.

Lou Stellato’s love affair with language began at New York University, where he studied Dramatic Writing and English Literature, learning how tension, rhythm, and silence hold a story together.

He spent nearly two decades at MTV, helping launch new channels, shaping the voice of a network, and leading teams that turned scripts into cultural signals. From longform specials to off-the-wall stunts, his work walked the line between chaos and craft.

He later brought that same sensibility to Audible, where he explored how storytelling shifts when it’s built entirely for the ear.

Now, as an editor, he cuts for meaning, listens for movement, and always leaves just enough space for the reader to breathe.
