关于此电子书

This book consists of three main parts: fundamental theory, design principles and methodology, and potential materials that can be applied to EM wave absorbers. In the theory part, this book provides the basics of electromagnetism, circuit and transmission line theory, EM wave propagation and reflection, and complex permittivity and permeability by electric polarization and magnetization of materials. In the design part, design methods are explained for various types of EM wave absorbers based on equivalent circuit models and simulation technologies. Starting from the traditional resonance-type absorber, this book reviews the latest metamaterial and frequency selection surface (FSS) absorbers with more advanced design techniques. Recent research results are also included associated with how to design the ultrawide-bandwidth absorbers through multilayering FSSs or shape-control of lossy materials. In the materials section, various lossy materials are reviewed that can be used as EM wave absorbers, including conductive materials, magnetic materials, dielectric materials, core-shell materials, fiber-reinforced composite materials, and metamaterials or metasurfaces. Literature reviews on their electromagnetic properties and EM wave absorption performance are also presented. Finally, the methods and principles for measuring the high-frequency properties (complex permittivity and permeability) and EM wave absorption are described.

作者简介

Prof. (Dr.) Sung-Soo Kim received the B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Seoul National University, Korea, in 1978, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1980 and 1983, respectively. In 1984, he joined the Agency for Defense Development, Korea, where he was a senior researcher and engaged in research and development of radar absorbing materials. From 1987 to 1988, he was a post-doc. research fellow at Materials Research Laboratory, Pennsylvania State University, USA. Since 1992, he has been with Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering, Chungbuk National University, Korea, as an Assistant (from 1992 to 1996), Associate (from 1996 to 2001), Full Professor (from 2001 to 2020), and Emeritus Professor (from 2020 to present). During 2003, he has been a Visiting Professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. His research includes the design and fabrication of various types of microwave absorbers (particulate and fiber composites, thin and thick films), design of ultrathin and ultra-wideband absorbers with metamaterials and frequency selective surfaces (FSSs), and evaluation of high frequency and microwave absorption properties using waveguides and free-space method. Recently, he invented the ultrawide bandwidth absorbers (4.7–50.0 GHz for −10 dB refection loss with a small total thickness of 7 mm) with the multi-layering technique of FSSs. He won multiple awards for outstanding papers. He has been a reviewer for many scientific journals. He has been supervising various research projects related to electromagnetic wave absorbers supported by national institutions and companies.
