The European Union has enacted regulations and directives which profoundly affect the practice, teaching and study of core areas of 'classical' private law. Reinhard Zimmermann is Director of the Max-Planck-Institut fuer auslaendisches und internationales Privatrecht in Hamburg.
Reiner Schulze is professor of German and European Civil law at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Germany.
