Im Rückgriff auf neuere kognitionswissenschaftliche Theorien wird der besondere Status von Figuren als menschenähnlichen Gebilden untersucht. Grundlage dafür ist eine Theorie narrativer Kommunikation, die dem kulturellen und historischen Wandel von Figuren und ihrer Darstellung gerecht zu werden versucht.
