I bought this for my grand daughter after reading it was Malia Obama's favorite book, any book good enough for the Predidents daughter is good enough for my grand daughter. I flipped through and was suprised to find a tribute in the front to real life hero Raymond Steed who is the youngest recorded service death in WW2. The story good me interested and so I thought I would read a few pages, 7 hours later and a whole day gone I had finished it. What a wonderful story, different to any story I have read before, the author painted a picture with words, the main character Jason Steed is a great little guy, A hero yeas, but like all boys he gets in trouble, even gets spanked and when things go wrong sheds a tear. I have since given the book to my grand daughter and she loved it, she is now asking for the second book, I have been unable to find that yet, various sites give the name for book 2, but no clear dates yet. I would recommened this book, to children 8 and up, including adults.

I think this book will stand in time. I love older classic young adult books. Oliver Twist, Tom Browns school days, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the Hobbit. I have probably read them all three or four times over my lifetime. Now we have a new classic; Fledgling Jason Steed. I bought this on paperback for my nephew, but also downloaded on my 'Sony reader' to make sure it was suitable. At one point I was laughing, next wiping my eyes, and then I almost missed my flight as I wanted to keep reading. It is a real page turner. To sum it up, it's a cross bewteen Tom Browns School Days, Tom Sayer, Karate Kid and a young James Bond. I am certain my nephew will love it. I am looking forward to reading the second Jason Steed adventure.
