Ne nasce un senso di scempio, di denti aguzzi che straziano le carni, di orribili gole spalancate, di un penoso e inutile dibattersi della vittima, serrata da artigli crudeli. In questo mondo lacerato, dai rilevanti connotati romani, Fedro cerca un'ancora di salvezza, e la trova nella poesia.

Fedro (I sec a.C.) è un poeta latino. Schiavo tracio, poi liberto di Augusto, scrisse cinque libri di favole in versi ispirandosi ad Esopo. Se ne conservano oltre 100, animate da pessimismo critico e comicità realistica.
