This lovely set of handmade slides allow the reader to see calculus as it should be: written by the human hand. Mathematicians teach better with blackboards than anything else, these slides are the equivalent to blackboard presentations, with a lot of information, some proofs and some very inspiring little illustrations. Like Sal Khan, Larry Gonick and Vi Hart, Ghrist understands that teaching is a human-to-human experience enhanced by the handwritten and impeded by powerpoint / beamer type slides. Congratulations on some very nice handiwork.

I am taking Prof. Grist's Single Variable Calculus on Coursera. His graphical-illustrative lecture style is just what I need to review this subject. This book "FLCT" fits perfectly with the course lectures and is an excellent quick review of each lecture (and adds a few details not covered in each lecture). You can't go wrong with this book if you are taking the course plus---the price is right! Thank you for your refreshing approach to this subject.

For those who have taken Calculus already (the first two semesters of a traditional sequence will do nicely as prereqs), this short read will change your life and bring everything into harmony, including basically all of physics and much probability theory while you're at it—oh, and literature, too! You'll come away from this text realizing that series expansion is the only game in town. You'll also come away with an appreciation for hand drawn typography and illustrations. Three cheers for Robert Ghrist!
