Prominent examples of metaheuristics are evolutionary algorithms, simulated annealing, tabu search, scatter search, memetic algorithms, variable neighborhood search, iterated local search, greedy radomized adaptive search procedures, estimation of distribution algorithms and ant colony opitmization.
