Trapped in his own prison, Artek the Knife is offered release if he is able to recover the nobleman from the twisting dungeon beneath Waterdeep. Everyone knows that getting inside the mysterious Undermountain is treacherous—and getting out is assuredly deadly. But for Artek and Beckla, a small time wizard who joins the mission, the risk is worth the reward.

Mark Anthony is the author of several Dungeons & Dragons novels set within the Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, and Ravenloft campaign settings. His work includes books such as Crypt of the Shadowking, Kindred Spirits, and Escape from Undermountain. He learned to love both books and mountains during childhood summers spent in a Colorado ghost town. Later he was trained as a palaeoanthropologist but along the way grew interested in a different sort of human evolution—the symbolic progress reflected in myth and the literature of the fantastic. He lives and writes in Colorado.
