About this ebook

A bewitching tale of heartbreak and hope set in 1920s Alaska, Eowyn Ivey's THE SNOW CHILD was a top ten bestseller in hardback and paperback, and went on to be a Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

'A story about finding love in unexpected places... full of fire and ice' Financial Times
'A magical, heartbreaking story' Marie Claire
'Stunning' The Times

Alaska, the 1920s. Jack and Mabel have staked everything on a fresh start in a remote homestead, but the wilderness is a stark place, and Mabel is haunted by the baby she lost many years before. When a little girl appears mysteriously on their land, each is filled with wonder, but also foreboding: is she what she seems, and can they find room in their hearts for her?

Written with the clarity and vividness of the Russian fairy tale from which it takes its inspiration, The Snow Child is an instant classic.

As a man more used to reading action, fantasy or humour novels on holiday I was unsure whether I would like this (and even more unsure why I downloaded it!) Nevertheless I am very glad I did as it captivated me from start to finish. An outstanding work which I can thoroughly recommend - but best read in the summer when it should not make you feel the cold so awesomely described in its pages!

I really enjoyed this book. It's like a fairy tale for adults! Yes, it's simple and not a great deal happens but I love the description of the landscape & delicate images it conjures up. It was an ideal winter weekend read. That said I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much had it been taken on a summer holiday.

I loved this book. It is beautifully written and Eowyn brings an old Russian fairytale to life. You are slowly but surely drawn into the old couples life in Alaska and you can feel their emotions, the highs and lows. It has a deeper meaning and I find myself thinking about it long after I finished reading it.
