Die Stadt ist so durchlässig wie der Tuffsteingrund, auf dem Parthenope einst erbaut wurde. Als »Stadt des Porösen« (Walter Benjamin) steht Neapel für eine reiche antike Überlieferung, für eine hoch entwickelte Opernkultur und eine barocke Verblüffungskunst, die ihresgleichen sucht, aber auch für die lange spanische Fremdherrschaft, für blutige Rebellionen und nicht zuletzt für die Auswüchse globalisierter Kriminalität. Until the 1960's the city situated on the Gulf was a place of desire and even today lemons are still blossoming in Southern Italy. This volume with essays from archaeology, study fields of history, art, music, film and literature depict that Naples also was and still is a hotbed of unrest, of shadiness not to say disreputability. The city is as porous as the volcanic tuff on which Parthenope once was built. As a »porous city« (Walter Benjamin) Naples stands for a rich ancient tradition, for a highly developed opera culture and for an outstanding baroque art but also for a long period of Spanish rule, for bloody rebellions and last but not least for global crime.
