The work gathered here also shows that we need to reconsider the meaning of international research. Based mostly in Spanish universities, the researchers gathered here come from a variety of national backgrounds, mainly Spanish, but also British, American, Eastern European and Chinese. They are producing research in English Studies in a global Anglophone environment, contributing at the same time – with persistence and resistance – new approaches that enhance the research produced in the geographical areas where English is spoken.
David Owen holds an MA in English Literature from Edinburgh University and an MA and PhD in English Literature from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he is a Lecturer and Researcher in English. His research interests include the history of the English novel, the early works of Jane Austen, and the writings of lesser-known women novelists of the late eighteenth century.
Elisabet Pladevall-Ballester holds an MA in Linguistics from University College London and a PhD in English Language and Linguistics from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She is a Lecturer and Researcher in English Applied Linguistics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
