This was another intriguing mystery that Jen and her little dogs got to work on, this time as a paid investigator. We got to meet the second ranch hand named Will, and Yancy got a little more of a story in this book. There was a side mystery in this book too which tied in at the end with the murder. I liked that everything was neatly wrapped up at the end and explained. Jen is a very likable sleuth, and it's a fun change that she's working with the police instead of trying to keep them from finding out she's investigating. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book via BookSprout, and my opinions are my own.

A good plot but I personally found it a little hard to follow at times. I believe at times it was speaking of events from a previous book in the series which I had not read. Maybe if I had it would have been better. If you are unsure get the free sample first. Just because I didn't thoroughly enjoy doesn't mean you won';t! This is the second Purebred Murder book, and not having read the the first book, it was a bit confusing in the beginning. That aside, the story moves along at a good pace and kept my interest until the end but I would still recommend reading the first before this one. Jen takes on a private investigator case with the blessing of the Sheriff's department since it's not a clear criminal matter even though they have their own suspicions. The plot is believable and I liked the characters. I also like the small town setting and, of course, the little dogs. The ending was unexpected, which is always good in a mystery book!
