Pawan S. Wable (PhD, IIT Kharagpur) is a researcher specializing in hydrology and watershed management. His research is particularly focused on drought indices, water balance studies, and innovative conservation practices tailored for semi-arid and forested ecosystems.

He earned his B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering from Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (MPKV), Rahuri, followed by M.Tech and PhD in Land and Water Resources Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. His doctoral research focused on Drought Assessment and Management in the Sina River Basin of Maharashtra, where he developed methodologies for evaluating drought severity, forecasting droughts and implementing adaptive management strategies to enhance resilience in water-stressed regions.

Dr. Wable has amassed over five years of experience in watershed management at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), where he played a key role in developing field-based solutions for effective water conservation, groundwater recharge, and sustainable land-use practices. His work integrated scientific research with real-world applications, benefiting rural and agricultural communities’ dependent on limited water resources.

In the past two and a half years, he has expanded his research focus to forest hydrology, a field that explores the intricate relationship between forests and water dynamics. His current work emphasizes evapotranspiration estimation, hydrological modeling in forested watersheds, and the impact of eco-restoration efforts on water balance. By integrating advanced monitoring techniques, including IoT-based hydrological instrumentation, he aims to bridge knowledge gaps in forest-water interactions, particularly in the Western Ghats of India.

Currently, he serves as Scientist-C at KSCSTE-Kerala Forest Research Institute.
