Er bewahrt zwar stets eine scheue Distanz zu dem Knaben, der späte Gefühlsrausch jedoch, dem sich der sonst so selbstgestrenge von Aschenbach nun willenlos hingibt, macht aus ihm letztlich einen würdelosen Greis.
